June 2010 Again, a cool spring has everything behind schedule but very healthy. The Clematis are blooming like crazy. Our Peony is beautiful and very popular with the bees. This Dianthus has done very well in the shade. After a years absence, the Blue-eyed Grass is back. |

Above, the Lady's Mantle blooms like clockwork. The double Knockout roses are spectacular. A Cranesbill's Geranium in the sun. Honeysuckle, Lipstick plant with Lamium, and a water fall, all approved by Ant Edna. |

Slowly the Mandevilla has begun to climb the arbor. A closeup of the Lamium blooming is beautiful. The homemade ice cream with fresh strawberries is to die for. A close-up of the Campanula. |

The Asiatic Lilly and Astilbe are thriving in the shade. The Bearded Tongue and Centranthus prefer the sun. Herbie, the gnome, supervises Mary as she weeds. |

The Nine Bark has such a nice color in the sun. A Husker Red Penstemon... huh? Don't tell the gnome. Yarrow, Dianthus and hisssss, I hear a scream from the woodpile. It's just a ... really big Garden snake. |

The purples are taking over the backyard. Occasionally a Butterfly and Butterflyweed will sneak in another color. The view through last year's new archway is really starting to come around. New bricked pathways will really dress up this view. |

To the sides, we have our two main yellows with Coreopsis and Gaillardia. Below the delicate Ice Plant and red Maltese Cross surround our first crop of Kiwi. |

The Shasta Daisies have just begun, the Oriental Poppies, however short, are spectacular. The Hollyhocks are blooming but are also being eaten by something. The BlueBells deserve a 2nd picture. The Asiatic Lilies are awesome. |

This corn was called Incredible, well named considering it has not been in the ground a whole week. Have you ever seen a pretty Zucchini bloom? Here is a Black Taro and a Water Lily bloom already. Geez, summer is half over. The cry rings out, 'more sand, more bricks'! |

With nearly all of the brick laying done, we'll have to get back to weeding and watering. 'Summer is here', cries the Calla and Cone Flower. The last three photo's celebrate how color, texture, plants and hardscape can begin to blend together. Don't worry, all that yucky sand will soon fill all the cracks and voids and disappear. |
